From your Principal
Principal’s Report
We are now approaching the final few weeks of Term 3. Last week was a wonderful opportunity for
students to speak with their parents and teachers about their learning progressions and areas for
growth, at the Learning Meetings. Thank you for taking the time to invest in these meetings. Parental
involvement and interest in their child’s education, has a positive influence on achievement,
behaviour, social skills and student attendance.
Opti-minds
On Sunday August 27, a team of students attended the Opti-minds competition. For the students
who attended, they were given the opportunity to think, create and communicate in a team
environment. Special mention goes to Mrs Manthey and Mrs Elmes both for their time on Sunday,
and time leading up to the event, to provide our students with this wonderful opportunity.
Father’s Day
I look forward to the P&F supported breakfast this Thursday, followed by our whole school liturgy, to
celebrate our dad’s and special male role models. You are all very welcome, and I do hope to meet
many of you on Thursday.
Attendance
With just over 2 weeks until holidays, I encourage you to ensure that children attend school every
day (unless unwell) and arrive at school prior to the bell to enable them the best chance of learning.
As both an educator and a parent, I am fully aware of the challenges in keeping attendance high,
when students can become fatigued. The end of term is crucial for revision of concepts taught
throughout the term and a time for students to continue to build their social skills and interactions
with others.
Take care,
Bridget Rillie

Holy Name School Prayer
As part of our 2023 Annual Action Plan, we have been reviewing our current school prayer to reflect the Characteristics of a Recontextualised Catholic Prayer. Put simply, rewording our Holy Name School Prayer to be reflective of our Catholic tradition in a contemporary world whilst referencing the school charism and mission. We are now seeking feedback from our Holy Name community on our draft Holy Name School Prayer. Please take the time to read our draft school prayer, click on the below and complete the very short survey. We value your feedback.
Holy Name School Prayer
In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Merciful God,
You show us that love finds a way forward.
As we walk in the footsteps of Jesus, teach us to show compassion and hospitality to all, to seek justice, and strive for excellence in our learning and all that we do.
May we continue to grow in our Catholic faith and be the light to show your love to the world.
We ask this through our loving God.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Prep News
Prep News
It’s hard to believe we are near the end of yet another term at Holy Name. We have had an enjoyable Term Three with lots of learning and loads of fun.
I would like to acknowledge the incredible progress our Preps have made this term. It has been a pleasure guiding them with their learning and I am incredibly proud of their achievements.
Earlier in the term we travelled to Amaroo where we enjoyed bush walks and play, nature crafts and animal dancing. Our preps represented Holy Name beautifully.
What did our Preps enjoy this term?
Thiong: I enjoyed adding big numbers in Maths. I also enjoyed cutting fairy bread in half and eating it. I cut it diagonal.
Annika: I enjoyed tie dying socks for Father’s Day.
Serenity: I enjoyed playing outside and hitting the balloons in PMP.
Charlie: I enjoyed eating fairy bread in Maths. We were learning about halves and wholes.
Aaira: I loved going to Amaroo. The bus trip was lots of fun.
It’s a sad week in our class this week as we say goodbye and good luck to Mrs Holm. We are all going to miss her dearly.
Banjo: Mrs Holm is always very helpful. She gives the best cuddles.
Blayke: Mrs Holm is a nice friend. She makes me eat my banana.
Ajuur: I’m going to miss Mrs Holm. She is the best teacher ever!
Willow: I love Mrs Holm. She helps me a lot!
Coming up: Week 10 Assembly performance
Thank you for your ongoing support with homework.
Best wishes for a safe and happy holiday!
Mrs Kauter
Year 1B News - Amaroo
Year 1F News - Amaroo
We all had a fabulous time at Amaroo Outdoor Education Centre. The students had fun wriggling their toes in the slimy mud and they demonstrated wonderful togetherness during the collaborative building activities – well done Year One’s!
Year 1F News - Book Week
Year 2 News
In year 2 we have been practicing our narrative writing. This week we got to read the books from book week and use them to create more exciting and complicating narratives.
We have just started learning our times tables and how they relate to division.
All year 2's had a blast at the book week parade and were dressed to impress.
Year 3 News
English - We have been learning how to write a procedure and what makes a quality procedure. It tells us how to do something in steps like a recipe or how to make something. It must have a title, method, materials, and a small conclusion. We are excited to write our own procedure and teach our friends something new. - Lily
Art - This week in Art with Mrs Mac, we have been looking at Darcy Doyle and Anh Do's artwork. We have been learning about continues line drawing and how to sketch landscape backgrounds. Art class is one of our favourite lessons of the week. - Beau
Maths - We have been learning to use different strategies to solve multiplication and division problems. Some of the strategies are using an array, number lines, fact families, and groups. - Bonnie
Year 4 News
Year 4 have been very busy writing narratives. We have learnt to include beautiful descriptions by including all our 5 senses, as well as similes and metaphors. We used our ideas from writing setting descriptions and character descriptions to enhance our stories so that we can ‘grab’ our reader’s attention. We have written about an accident in the bush, what we could find lurking under our bed and our most recent story is about a spooky house. Hopefully, you might get spooked reading our latest story. Year 4 enjoyed Book Week Parade last Wednesday. Maybe one day, children in the future will be dressing up as a character from one of our students.
Year 5 News
Mrs. Roberts’ Fabulous Fives
As we draw near to the end of this term, I am filled with immense pride and excitement as I reflect on the wonderful achievements and growth that have taken place in our classroom. The enthusiasm and dedication shown by each student have truly made this a term to remember.
Exploring the Beauty of Words: Poetry in English
In our English lessons this term, we embarked on an exciting journey into the world of poetry. The students embraced this creative form of expression with open hearts and minds. We delved into various poetic techniques, from similes to metaphors, and even experimented with rhythm and rhyme. The depth and beauty they brought to their poems were truly remarkable. It's been a joy to witness their confidence grow as they shared their verses aloud, each piece as unique as the budding poets themselves.
Mathematical Marvels: Consolidating Concepts
Our mathematical explorations have been equally impressive. The students have been diligently consolidating their understanding of key concepts, from multiplication and division to fractions and decimals. Their eagerness to tackle challenging problems and their commitment to honing their problem-solving skills have been commendable. The classroom has been abuzz with the sound of collaboration as students worked together to crack intricate mathematical puzzles. It's inspiring to witness their perseverance paying off as their mathematical prowess shines through.
Unveiling the Forces of Nature: Natural Disaster Research Projects
The students embraced their research projects on natural disasters with unparalleled enthusiasm. They have delved deep into the causes, impacts, and preventive measures related to various natural calamities. The presentations I've had the privilege to witness were not just informative but also showcased their dedication to understanding and raising awareness about these significant events. Their ability to break down complex information into digestible pieces reflects their growing analytical skills and determination.
Science, Illuminated: Collaborative Exploration of Light
In our science lessons, we embarked on a captivating exploration of light. The students not only grasped the theoretical aspects but also engaged in hands-on experiments that brought these concepts to life. Collaborative activities, such as creating prisms to understand light refraction and designing shadow puppet shows, have enhanced their understanding of light's properties and behaviour. The excitement and curiosity they've shown throughout this unit have been truly heartening.
As we look forward to the upcoming break, let's take a moment to celebrate these achievements and the incredible journey of growth and learning that our students have undertaken this term. Their resilience, curiosity, and willingness to step out of their comfort zones have been truly inspiring.
I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all parents and guardians for your unwavering support. Your partnership plays a crucial role in fostering a positive learning environment that nurtures our students' success.
Let's recharge our energies over the break and return with renewed enthusiasm for the adventures that the next term will bring. Until then, may you all have a restful and enjoyable break.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Roberts
Year 6 News
As we bid farewell to another enriching term, I want to take a moment to reflect on the remarkable journey our Year 6 students have undertaken in their learning.
Migration Marvels in HASS: Our young learners have immersed themselves in the captivating world of migration, a topic that has taken them on a global adventure. Through lively discussions, our Year 6 class has delved into the complexities of migration – its causes, impacts, and the human stories that lie at its heart.
Literary Expeditions in English: In the realm of English, our students have embarked on literary expeditions that have enriched their understanding of migration even further. By immersing themselves in narratives of characters experiencing migration, our Year 6 class has discovered the power of storytelling to foster empathy and insight. The highlight of our English journey was our writing projects, where each student crafted a migration-themed journal entry, based on both Boy Overboard by Morris Gleitzman and The Arrival by Shaun Tan.
As we near to the close of this term, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your continuous support and collaboration. It's been a pleasure to witness the growth of the Year 6 students, not only as learners but also as compassionate individuals ready to embrace the challenges of the world. Thank you for entrusting me with the education and growth of your children. It's a privilege to be a part of their journey.
Wishing you all a restful break and a joyful transition to the next term.
Have a fantastic remainder of Term 3!
