Newsletter Week 8 Term 4
Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to all of the Holy Name students for their participation, sportsmanship and efforts at the Swimming Carnival yesterday. I would like to particularly mention our Year 6 leaders for their assistance with our younger students and outstanding example they set in participation and sportsmanship. Well done leaders! What a great example of our Gospel Value in the Mercy Tradition of Excellence.
Congratulations to Mort House on their convincing win!
Staffing News
Staffing for 2025 has now been finalised with the appointment of Miss Sandra Rosentreter as classroom teacher. Sandra is a very experienced teacher, having worked most recently at Our Lady of Lourdes in Toowoomba. Sandra taught my eldest daughter, and I am very excited to have such an outstanding teacher joining our school community in 2025.
All our new teaching staff will be in attendance for our transition morning on the 29th of November. Class structure and teacher allocation will be communicated with families next week.
End of Year Awards
This year, Holy Name School is introducing some End of Year Academic Awards. These awards are to recognise the academic achievement and efforts of our students in the areas of English, Mathematics and Religion. Our final Footsteps of Jesus awards will also be presented at this time. The awards ceremony will be held on Monday the 2nd of December at 1:45pm in the MEAC. All families are warmly invited to attend.
Year 6 Graduation
We will have the opportunity to celebrate and farewell our Year 6 students at a special Mass on Wednesday the 4th of December at 9am. All Holy Name Community members are welcome to attend. Thank you to our Year 5 families for catering a special morning tea for our Year 6 students, their families and invited guests prior to our graduation ceremony at 10:30am. At the graduation ceremony, we will also be announcing the inaugural recipients of the Year 6 Awards, and our 2025 school leaders.
Year 5/6 2025 camp
Thank you to Laura Sikorski for volunteering to coordinate the raffle for the Year 5/6 camp to Emu Gully. Raffle tickets will be on sale at the Christmas Concert with prizes being drawn on the night. Donations would be gratefully appreciated and can be left at the school office or with Laura.
PEN in 2025
At the most recent P&F Meeting and School Advisory Board meetings, it was unanimously voted to form a Parent Engagement Network (PEN) in 2025. The draft constitution for a PEN is up on our school website for interested parents. We will be calling for nominations early next year for the executive positions on the PEN. Thank you to all of the parents who have served on the executive of both the P&F and Board over the years, and to all those parents who have supported the P&F in their fundraising and community building ventures. We look forward to continuing and building on this high level of support as we move forward in 2025 with a PEN.
I close my newsletter article this week with the prayer our Year 4/5 class selected for Miss Canning to share with the staff at the staff meeting last week.
As we reach the end of term, we pray for our teachers and those who support us at school.
God of Wisdom,
give our teachers and those who support our school the strength and courage to care for all students and to cater for their needs.
May you inspire them with creativity as they plan for our learning experiences.
Fill them with peace as they find ways to deal with the many new concerns they have to address to fulfil their roles.
May they always know of our gratitude for them.
We ask this prayer in Jesus’ name, Amen.

The role of the APMI – Part 3: Organisational Leadership and Strategic Leadership
In this week’s newsletter, we look at 2 more aspects of the role of the AMPI here at Holy Name.
As an Organisational leader, the APMI supports the school Principal in all dimensions of school life. From managing staffing allocations, physical and human resources and the school budget, the APMI supports the principal to effectively deliver the priorities outlined in the School Strategic Plan and Annual Action Plan. When required, the APMI will deputize during the principal’s absence.
As a strategic leader, the APMI contributes to the vision, mission and strategic goals of the school, and aligns them with the broader strategic direction of the Toowoomba Catholic Schools Office. The APMI leads and supports the expression of the school’s Catholic Identity in school policies and practices. In doing so, ensuring that the foundation story of the school is honoured, including its charism and values, while moving towards a contemporary school context that aligns with our identity as a Catholic Primary School in the Mercy Tradition.
We are very excited to welcome back Mrs Kerri-Ann Manthey in Term 1, 2025 to the renewed and refreshed role of Assistant Principal Mission and Identity (APMI).
Remembrance Day
At 11am on the 11th day of September, students and staff came together in Prayer, to recognise Remembrance Day, a day which recalls the end of First World War hostilities. This significant day observed each year, honours the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in wars and conflicts. This was a time for us to learn more about the values of peace, courage, and gratitude. It provided us an opportunity to reflect on the teachings of Jesus about love and sacrifice, fostering a deeper understanding of compassion and service to others.
John 15:12-13
12 This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
The Ode of Remembrance is a poem that is commonly recited to commemorate wartime sacrifice.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
School Fees
A reminder that Term 4 school fees are now due.
If you are experiencing difficulty paying your fees, please contact the office to arrange a meeting with Mrs Cavanagh.
