Term 4 Week 2 2023
From Your Principal
Dear Families,
Welcome back to Term 4. I do hope that your family had time to connect over the break and spend time together. I also hope that your family have started the term positively and established school routines ready for a positive term of learning and engaging.
This term we acknowledge and celebrate some significant events at the school.
- The annual Holy Name Art Show on the evening of Friday October 20. Please consider how you can support this wonderful event organised by the school P&F, either by purchasing a ticket and attending (child minding available) or supporting your child in selling raffle tickets. I encourage you to follow the P&F on their Facebook page for further information. My thanks go out to all who are giving of their time to organise this event.
- Mark the date in your calendar for World Teachers Day- Friday October 27. This is acknowledged at school along side Grandparents day. We look forward to welcoming our school grandparents on that morning.
- This is the final term for our year 6 students, as they finalise their primary schooling and prepare for high school. We look forward to celebrating their graduation on Wednesday November 29.
This week we welcomed our 2024 Prep students and families for a transition morning. This event was supported by our P&F and School Board. It was wonderful to meet these new and existing families and support our incoming preps to feel familiar and comfortable with the school environment.
A reminder to families, that supervision begins each morning at 8:15 am. If you are dropping your child to school prior to this time, please remind them to be seated in the seating area. Ensuring your child has a book to look at or read, may support them. If you are looking for before school care, information regarding the TCKC outside of hours school care, can be located on the school web page.
This week, we welcomed back the class of 2017 to Holy Name. These students, about to finish their schooling journey, spoke to our year 6 cohort around the transition to high school. They also ran some games in the MEAC with their old ‘prep buddies’. Their stories of their primary education were great to listen to as was their memories of their teachers, friendships and learnings.
I look forward to continuing to work within the Holy Name community as the term progresses.
Take care,
Bridget Rillie
(Acting Principal)

Year 2 News
Even though it is a short term, year 2 has plenty to learn.

By the end of the term students will be able to write a persuasive text to a specific target audience.
In Maths we are collecting data and comparing it with our classmates. Also learning to have the ability to measuring a range on items with informal and formal units. In year 2 we target the following units: centimeters, millimeters, grams, milligrams, liters and milliliters.
This term in Science we learn about chemical science and deeply into materials and properties. We look into picking apart different materials and objects to compare and justify why they are made out of the properties.
Even though NAPLAN is in term 1 of year 3, the year 2 students will be practising NAPLAN related questions in preparation. Within a program called TIP on Fridays, students get 1 hour to participate in NAPLAN targeted lessons to prepare and aware students of their first NAPLAN.
The main goal for our year 2 classes is to grow as a community and to be ready for year 3 in 2025.

Please feel free to reach out to me via email at matilda.hose@twb.catholic.edu.au if you have any questions, concerns, or updates regarding your child. Please note that due to the busyness of Term 4, I will be sending out lots of email communication so please check your emails regularly to stay up to date.
I am looking forward to working closely with both you and your child during this final term of Year 3. Together, we can ensure a successful and enriching learning experience. Let's make these last few months of the school year memorable and filled with growth and achievement.
Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in your child's education. Here's to a fantastic and productive term ahead!
Year 4
Year 4 have started the term well and have already got underway with many new units.
In English, the students are working on ‘Persuasive Text’, and they worked on a modelled lesson on the topic, ‘Animals in Cages’. This was an interesting topic as we decided that there were two sides to this argument. While we thought it was cruel, it seemed that there were cases where we thought that some animals did need to be in cages. Our science unit is ‘Earth Science’, and we began by walking around the playground searching for different types of rocks and discussing how they may have got there. HASS is all about Australian Explorers and we have initially looked at the history of the early settlers and how they started to expand the colony by searching for new lands. This term looks very interesting and will focus on investigation and developing our independent research skills.
Year 5 News
We hope this newsletter finds you well and excited for another term of learning and fun. It's hard to believe that we are already in the last term of 2023! Time truly does fly when you're having a great time in Year 5.
Exploring The Missing Mona Lisa: Detectives and Adventure Agents
This term, Year 5 will embark on an exciting integrated unit titled "The Missing Mona Lisa." In this adventure, our students will become detectives and adventure agents in pursuit of suspects and the missing valuable piece of art by Leonardo Da Vinci - the famous Mona Lisa! This unit promises to be a thrilling and educational journey that will enhance problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and creativity.
Australian Democracy and Government
In addition to our pursuit of the missing Mona Lisa, Year 5 will be expanding their knowledge of Australian Democracy and our country's system of government. We'll explore the roles of various government bodies, the principles of democracy, and the importance of civic engagement. It's a fantastic opportunity for our students to better understand how our nation is governed and the rights and responsibilities of citizens.
I am thrilled to be embarking on this journey with your children this term and look forward to a fantastic, engaging, and educational experience.
Here's to a successful and enjoyable Term 4!
Warmest regards
Mrs. Brenda Roberts
