Term 2 Week 4
From the Principal - Lisa Cavanagh
Dear Holy Name Families,
Staffing updates
A staffing update was communicated with the year 5/6 parents last week. Meghann Kimmorley will not be returning to Holy Name for Semester 2 as planned as she has accepted a part-time position at another TCS school for the remainder of 2024. Brook Marquart will be continuing to teach the Year 5/6 class until the end of the year. We wish Meghann all the best for her new position.
Expectations
Last term, I communicated with the Holy Name School community my expectations around student behaviour. Regular reminders of these expectations are essential for ensuring the embedding of these expectations for the students and wider community. This term, our focus will be on treating others with RESPECT.
The following are the behaviour expectations for students at Holy Name School.
- All students will treat others respectfully (including classmates, staff and volunteers).
- All students will keep their hands, feet and objects to themselves.
- All students will speak kindly to each other (offensive and/or abusive language is not okay).
- All students include and extend hospitality to others.
- All students take responsibility for their own actions and accept the consequences of these actions.
- All students will speak-up when they witness someone being bullied – Bullying will NOT be tolerated at Holy Name School.
Leadership Forum
Next week, I will be in Stanthorpe for the Term 2 Leadership Forum. This is an opportunity for all the TCS Principals to meet for professional learning and development. This term’s forum includes an element of spiritual renewal and retreat. I am looking forward to the reflection and renewal time. Kerri-Ann Manthey will deputize in my absence.
A Spoonful of Compassion
This term, Holy Name School is launching “ A Spoonful of Compassion”. This is a social justice project instigated and led by our year 4/5 teacher, Dannielle Canning. As part of our pastoral ministry, we will be providing food for those in need in our school community. We are asking for the Holy Name community to keep their ear to the ground and support those around us. If you or you know of a family in need, please do not hesitate to contact Danni Canning (4/5 classroom teacher) or Lisa Cavanagh. What form will this take?
- Staff have made some simple lunch packs for students who may have come to school without lunch. If a student requires lunch, they can let their teacher know and the teacher will access a lunch pack for them. Teachers will communicate with parents that their child/ren has received a lunch pack.
- Staff have made simple, family meals to be shared with families who are experiencing; illness, bereavement, welcoming new additions or experiencing hardship.
If you or you are aware of someone who would benefit from “A Spoonful of Compassion”, please let Danni, myself or a member of the P&F know. Meals will be delivered with compassion, discretion, and hospitality to our families.
Under 8s Week
On Monday the 20th of May, Holy Name will be hosting a Under 8s Day celebration. Our Prep to Year 2 students, along with invited guests, will participate in a morning of fun activities around the theme of “Connecting Culture Through Play.”
Mother’s Day
Thank you to our P&F for organising our Mother’s Day Breakfast and activities for this Friday Morning from 7am. I am looking forward to meeting with many of the significant women in the lives of our students and attending with my mother, sister and daughter.
All the best for the fortnight ahead.
God Bless

Dear Lord,
On this special day, we show our gratitude for all Mothers.
We thank them for their all-encompassing love, for their commitment, care and kindness.
We thank them for their wisdom, for helping us grow and flourish.
We thank them for their strength, for their sacrifices, and for being there in times of need.
And we thank them for their encouragement, for being our cheer leaders and celebrating our achievements.
Lord, help Mothers know how much they are loved and appreciated.
We ask that you bless all Mothers, including those who are no longer with us today.
Amen.

Of one thing I am certain: my soul has become calm, quiet, and contented in You. Like a weaned child resting upon his mother, I am quiet. My soul is like this weaned child.
Psalm 131:2
In the Catholic Church, the month of May is devoted to Mary, the mother of God. Mary knew courage. She accepted God’s will, and courageously – steadfastly – held on to her faith. Perhaps Mary in her faithful devotion, reveals an image to us of God as ‘mother’ - much like the Psalm above.
We look forward to celebrating mothers with a joyful Mother’s Day Prayer Celebration led by Ms Inskip and the Prep/Year One Gold class, tomorrow, Friday 10 May at 8.45am in the MEAC.

Last week, our Year Five students received a set of their very own rosary beads from the members of Mary’s Rosary Making Group. Specifically designed for students of Catholic Schools across the diocese, they have been made with loving hands and will be a great resource in the teaching of the rosary. We thank the members of Mary’s Rosary Making Group very much for their generosity.

The Fire Education program is delivered to Year 1 students across Queensland. The aim of the program is to assist students to develop an understanding of the dangers of fire and appropriate responses, should they be in a situation where fire is involved. Our students very much enjoyed the first lesson of their Fire Education, learning the 5 key messages of being safe if exposed to a fire, and exploring the clothing and equipment a fire fighter uses. They can't wait for their next lesson later this month, where they get to explore the Fire truck and hoses. Thank you to the Kitchener Street Fire Station and staff for providing our Year 1's with this very important educational opportunity.
