From the Principal - Lisa Cavanagh

This term has been such a busy time, with some fantastic teaching and learning opportunities happening in our classrooms.  I have been very impressed with how our students are demonstrating the Gospel Value of Excellence in their learning.

We had over 40 of our Year 3-6 students participate in the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee, with three students qualifying for the State Finals, held this week.  Congratulations to Malachi, Finn and Hutchy on your achievements.

Our Opti-Minds teams, after six long weeks of preparation, participated on Sunday in the Regional competition.  I was blown away by the quality of the students’ presentation, especially the way the Language and Literature Team incorporated the Gospel Values lived in the Mercy Tradition of; Excellence, Compassion, Justice and Hospitality, into their presentation on Cyber Bullying.  The judges selected both our Language and Literature Team and our Social Sciences Team, for first place in their respective divisions.  We now have 12 students heading to Brisbane in October to compete in the Queensland State Finals!  Congratulations to the students on their participation and efforts and to Mrs Sophie Elmes and Miss Sandra Rosentreter, who worked so diligently to prepare the students for the competition.

Several of our students have been demonstrating sporting excellence in recent weeks as well, representing Central Zone at the Darling Downs Track and Field Trials.  Congratulations to all our sporting stars on their participation and sportspersonship demonstrated at the events.  Congratulations to Cc on her selection to the Darling Downs Team in the 100m and 200m.

Throughout this week, I have Mrs Casey Chard, Acting Principal of St Jospeh’s School in Glen Innes visiting.  St Jospeh’s Glen Innes is part of the Armadale Catholic Diocese and Casey is participating in the Keystones Leadership development program.  As part of this program, aspiring and new principals are mentored by a principal colleague – this mentorship includes a weeklong visit to the school.  We have been enjoying her visit and our discussions.

As we prepare to celebrate Father’s Day this Sunday, I would like to wish all of our fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, uncles and special friends a happy Father’s Day.  May you all, like St Joseph – the Patron Saint of Fathers – demonstrate love, support and guidance for your families.

God bless

Lisa Cavanagh

APMI News

As we journey through the term, we pause to give thanks for the many blessings in our lives, especially the gift of fathers, grandfathers, and all those who take on a fatherly role in our families and community.

This Friday, we warmly invite you to join us for our Father’s Day Prayer Celebration, led by our wonderful Year Two students.

🗓 Date: Friday 04 September
🕣 Time: 8:45 AM
📍 Location: MEAC

This special celebration is a time to gather in prayer and gratitude, honouring the love, guidance, and strength of the fathers in our lives.

A Prayer for Fathers

God our Father,
We give you thanks for the gift of fathers.
May they be blessed with wisdom, patience, and strength.
Help them to reflect your love in all they do,
and to guide their families with kindness and courage.
May they always know how deeply they are appreciated and loved.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Let us continue to walk together in faith, hope, and love.

Blessings,
Kerri-Ann Manthey
Assistant Principal – Mission and Identity

Cookbook

Join Us in Celebrating the Diverse Flavours of Our Community – Through a Cookbook!

We are thrilled to announce the creation of a community cookbook that celebrates the rich cultural diversity of our Holy Name families. This special collection will feature cherished recipes from across the globe—shared by you!

This cookbook is also a fundraiser for our Parent Engagement Network (PEN), with all proceeds supporting the development of a ‘Bush to Basket’ garden—a sustainable, educational space for our students and community to connect with nature, learn about native plants, and enjoy the fruits of their labour.
