Welcome to Term Four!
As we begin this final term of the year, we are invited to live out our Gospel Value of Excellence, grounded in the Mercy Tradition. Excellence calls us to be our best selves—striving for growth, integrity, and wholehearted commitment in our learning, relationships, and faith.
Our Learning Power focus this term is Reflection. We encourage students to pause, think deeply, and learn from their experiences. Reflection helps us grow in wisdom, make thoughtful choices, and recognise God’s presence in our daily lives

October: A Month of Prayer and Mission
October is a rich and meaningful time in our Catholic calendar, offering many opportunities to deepen our spiritual life and sense of global responsibility:
World Mission Month
This month, we join the global Church in celebrating World Mission Month. We are reminded that we are all called to be missionary disciples—bringing Christ’s love to others through acts of kindness, justice, and service.
Month of the Rosary
October is also dedicated to the Holy Rosary, a powerful prayer that invites us to reflect on the life of Jesus through the eyes of Mary. We will be praying the Rosary in classrooms and during prayer celebrations, and we encourage families to join in this beautiful tradition at home.
As we journey through Term Four, may we be inspired to live with excellence, grow through reflection, pray with devotion, and act with love.
Blessings,
Kerri-Ann Manthey

Welcome to Term 4!
As we step into Term 4, it's hard to believe the end of the school year is fast approaching. The final term is always a special time, filled with reflection, celebration, and continued learning. Our Year 1 students are ready to embrace the weeks ahead with enthusiasm and curiosity, and we’re excited to share what they’ll be exploring in the classroom.
Religion
This term in Religion, students will explore the story of Mary, Mother of Jesus, through the guiding question: “How do we remember the story of Mary?” They will investigate Mary’s life and her significance in our faith, with a particular focus on how she is honoured in prayer. Students will reflect on the Hail Mary—learning what it is, when and where it is prayed, and why it holds a special place in Catholic tradition. Students will also discover other meaningful ways Mary is remembered, such as through songs, statues, storybooks, and the Rosary.
English
This term, students will explore the book Opal and Dart to build skills in reading, writing, and speaking. They will learn to express opinions, understand story structure, and use features like titles and headings. Students will identify word types, punctuation, and vocabulary related to birds and migration. They’ll compare images, connect personally with the story, and describe characters, settings, and events. Throughout the unit, students will read and comprehend texts, practise reading and writing high-frequency words, and create short texts using unjoined letters, and write simple and complex sentences with correct punctuation. They’ll also develop fluency, editing skills, and confidence in oral presentations.

Year 3/4 - Stacy Mills
Welcome back to Term 4 – the busy and exciting final term for the year! We are starting this off by presenting our prayer celebration on assembly this week.
All the students have settled back into the school routine after the holidays and are demonstrating engagement and enthusiasm for the units we are studying this term. The following is an overview of what we will be covering in each key learning area this term.
In English we are investigating how advertisers use persuasive techniques on their product packaging to sell a product. We are looking forwards to using some of these techniques in designing our own breakfast cereal package. We will create our cereal boxes and then present a persuasive speech, convincing our classmates that they should buy our cereal.
In Religion we will begin by connecting ideas about living in community from the experiences of different communities, including the early Church communities in Australia. We will then lead into learning about the cultural contexts in which the Gospels were written, and the text types used by the human authors of the New Testament to communicate their ideas including the Christian belief that Jesus is the Messiah. This will be explored within the context of Advent – waiting for the Messiah – and Christmas – the arrival of the Messiah.
In this term's mathematics curriculum for Year 3/4 class, we will be focusing on a variety of mathematical concepts including:-Multiplication and Division, Location - Maps and Plans, Subtraction Strategies – Change and Fix, Capacity – Uniform Informal Units, Statistical Investigations, interpreting data and financial maths.
In HaSS students will explore Australia's geographical divisions and its relationship with its neighbouring countries. They will identify the main types of vegetation in these countries, including forest, savannah, grasslands, woodlands and deserts. They will explore natural vegetations in Australia and the neighbouring countries. Students will also investigate similarities and differences between places in Australian and neighbouring countries in terms of their natural resources and managed and constructed features.
During Science students will Investigate the observable properties of solids and liquids and how adding or removing heat energy leads to a change of state. Students will also examine the properties of natural and man-made materials including fibres, metals, glass and plastics and consider how these properties influence their use.
Year 4 - Katie Green
As we step into the final term of the year, there’s a wonderful sense of momentum and pride in our Year 4 classroom. Students are building on everything they’ve learned so far, diving into rich, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and deepen understanding. In religion, they’re exploring how free choices shape individuals and communities, while learning about the practices of contemporary parishes and dioceses—including the Sacraments of Anointing of the Sick and Penance—and how these reflect the mission and ministry of Jesus.
In English, students are investigating how advertisers use persuasive techniques, analysing cereal packaging, and designing their own product with a persuasive pitch to match. They’ll also rehearse and deliver a structured oral presentation to showcase their ideas. Meanwhile, in geography and science, students are exploring sustainability—examining how different countries adopt sustainable practices and learning about the custodial responsibility First Nations Peoples have towards the land. It’s a term full of creativity, reflection, and meaningful connections, and I’m so proud of the thoughtful work my Year 4 learners are producing as they finish the year strong.
Year 5 - Anna Vaessen
Welcome back to our last term of Year 5. The year has gone so fast and there is not much time left until the Year 5’s will be school leaders. This term, Mr Maloney (Well-Being officer) and myself will be working together with the class to develop their leadership skills and resilience. These sessions will take place on a Wednesday afternoon replacing the small group sessions he has done in the past.
In English we are using the book “Tree” to identify characteristics of a text that is both fiction and non-fiction. This will help us when we go to write a factual report on an animal adaptation. Students are studying animal adaptations and survival in Science. We will use this knowledge we have and learn the language style and format for a factual report. Students will then create a PowerPoint presentation and consider the layout of text, text boxes, headings, diagrams and maps.
In Mathematics we will continue to develop number knowledge as well as concepts such as location, shape, data, statistics, order of operation, fractions, decimals, percentages and problem solving using these concepts. I am very proud of how far the students have come in learning their rolling numbers. This is such an important skill to have in order to complete other Mathematical activities.
The students will be researching and learning about needs, wants, resources and choices in HASS. We will be using our knowledge of needs and wants and how this impacts the choices we make, and those choices depend on the availability of resources.
Our religion unit sees us looking into the scriptures surrounding the life of Mary, Marian prayers and how Mary is important to lives of the believers. Towards the end of the term we will be learning more about the birth of Jesus and important events surrounding that time.
Some other events coming up for our class include:

A Ghost in My Suitcase is a work of contemporary fiction by author Gabrielle Wang. Wang’s novel is a coming-of-age tale featuring protagonist Celeste LaClaire, a 12-year-old Australian girl with a Chinese mother and a French father. In the wake of her mother’s death, which has left her and her immediate family struggling emotionally, Celeste travels to China in order to return her mother’s ashes to the Isle of Clouds, the home of her ancestors. She meets her maternal grandmother Por Por, as well as Ting Ting, a girl whom Por Por has adopted. Celeste soon learns that Por Por and Ting Ting are ghost hunters. Por Por takes Celeste on as an apprentice and teaches her the culture and traditions of Chinese ghost hunting. The story unfolds through a series of increasingly dramatic battles with local ghosts, with Celeste gaining confidence as she develops her natural talent for the art.
